Physicians play a critical role in healthcare delivery including the uptake of quality improvements which aim to reduce risks, streamline operations, enhance safety and improve patient experience. In fact, physicians drive 75 to 85 per cent of all quality and cost decisions.

It is therefore critical to engage physicians in quality improvement and to ensure their participation using a people-centred approach that addresses patient needs from the perspective of patients and their families. In fact, a people-centred approach takes into consideration that patients and their families are experts in their own health and care based on their ‘lived’ experience and combines this experience with the clinical expertise of clinicians. The result is a deeper understanding of issues leading to stronger solutions and better results.
